Spray Foam Insulation
Spray foam insulation (SPF) is Ecologic’s primary product offering and area of expertise. We’ve been featured in national magazines and televisions shows for our work with spray foam and other high performance insulating materials. A unique product attribute that makes SPF superior to other forms of insulation is its ability to be installed onsite to custom fit the spaces, nooks, and crannies found in wood or metal construction. Because of its custom installation, SPF is one of the best performing insulating products available.
Ecologic works with Graco, the world’s largest SPF equipment manufacturer, to make sure products are field tested and can withstand the rigors of high production use. We use the most technologically-advanced SPF installation equipment from Graco that is cloud connected and can digitally communicate to all managers if an issue with the equipment happens. Using this software also allows Ecologic the ability to create quality assurance reports that provide data point tracking for all of the critical sensors that process the SPF, giving our customers confidence in our craftsmanship.
Spray polyurethane foam insulation used in residential and commercial construction has been used since the 1960s. NASA engineers recognize SPF’s superiority and uses it on space shuttles to protect astronauts from a deep freeze.
Open cell and closed cell spray foam insulation are both in the same category of building materials. The same equipment is used to install both products, and over 60% of the raw component ingredients are identical. The biggest difference between the two products is density.
Closed cell differences
- Increased R-value per inch
- Increased resistance of water vapor transmission
- Increased rigidity providing structural strength (rack, load, etc)
- Increased price point over open cell
Open cell differences
- Offers the ability to air seal as effectively as closed cell but at a lower price
- Water vapor transmission permeable (Vapor Open)
- Easier to remove if needed
- Rapid expansion provides ability to fill voids closed cell cannot fill
Closed cell foam insulation performs best is in small cavity assemblies (roof, wall, floor) and high humidity prone spaces. Closed cell offers an R-value of R-7 per inch and the ability to stop humidity and water vapor from passing through it.
Assemblies that benefit the most from closed cell foam insulation:
- 2×4 walls
- 2×6 cathedral ceilings
- Metal sheathed assemblies
- Floor systems over open earth
- Crawl spaces
- Field stone foundation spaces (basement / crawl space)
- Walk in coolers / freezers
- Indoor pools

Benefits of spray foam insulation at a glance
- Eliminates drafts and air seals
- Helps regulate a comfortable, constant temperature throughout a building.
- Helps with noise reduction.
- Assists in improving indoor air quality.
- Reduces the infiltration of outdoor pollutants.
- Reduces moisture and mold growth within the walls and roof.
- Increases efficiency of SPF reduces heating and cooling usage.
- Reduces construction costs due to smaller HVAC equiment.
- SPF will not sag, settle, or change dimensional shape.
- Provides highest R-value available.
- Conserves energy while reducing emissions.
- Contributes to sustainable building programs (LEED, NAHB Green Builder, Phius, net-zero).
- SPF (closed cell) can help reduce structural damage from high winds.
- SPF contains no formaldehyde or ozone depleting substances.
- Minimizes job site waste (Ecologic specific).
